Big Tea Congressional Hearing Needed
A report was released today establishing a link between drinking black tea at temperatures above 70C and oesophageal cancer (I thought the spelling was wrong for oesophageal as did my spell check, but the BBC begs to differ see the article here)
The difficulty with this story is that no one knows what the C stands for in this study. It is obviously some sort of secret measurement used by the scientists in this study, but until we know what it equates to in real American degrees, aka Farenheit, we will only be able to guess at what temperature 70C equals. Maybe it is an unknowable quantity like absolute Kelvin or Google’s page rank.
As the BBC article states black tea is often served with milk in most Western cultures making the temperature a moot point. Unfortunately when drank with milk tea can cause kidney stones. There is not much I can think of that is worth risking getting kidney stones so I am glad that I do not drink black tea too often.

"I Pity the Fool Who Wants Their Tea Hot and Black"
I do drink green tea occasionally. The study did not mention green tea probably because green tea packages usually advise you not to bring the water to a full boil. I drink green tea without milk also so I am not at risk for the kidney stones either which is a big relief.
I do think there needs to be a major congressional hearing regarding what Big Tea knew and when they knew it. There should be surgeon general warning labels on the side of black tea packaging along with detailed instructions on how to properly prepare black tea to avoid cancer and kidney stones. Also Big Tea should be forced to release the results of these studies in layman’s terms as if no one knows how hot 70C is, they will be unable to know for sure whether that tea kettle whistle is a sign that your water is ready or a harbinger of horrible things to come.
Full Disclosure: The picture was taken from the site Punurama. I am not a doctor nor have I done a recreation of this study I am merely commenting on the article from the BBC referencing the study.
For those who were not sure if I was truely ignorant of what 70C stood for or if I was joking. I do know what it means. I live in America and I believe that it is about time that we switch to the metric system and get rid of farenheit and all the other arbitrary forms of meaurement that we use. I understand that those who are new to this site and do not know me may have thought I was being ignorant when talking about how the article should have used real American degrees, but I was being sarcastic. Thanks for the feedback though. I can see how that might have been taken the wrong way. Of course if Obama tried to push through legislation moving us to the metric system it would likely be seen by some as further proof that he is the anti-christ or trying to move us toward the New World Order or some combination of the two.
